Kulemak’s Invitation may seem like a simple key in Path of Exile 2, but behind it lies a surprisingly intricate system that ties together Abyss encounters, Depths progression, and the mysterious Abyssal Cities. Players who understand these deeper mechanics not only farm invitations more efficiently but also unlock far more rewarding loops than those who treat Abysses as just another mapping event. If you’ve ever wondered why some players generate invitations rapidly while others struggle for hours, the answer almost always comes down to understanding what’s happening beneath the surface.
At the heart of Kulemak farming lies the way Abysses evolve as you push them deeper into the map. Each Abyss fissure follows a branching path with multiple potential outcomes monster waves, dead ends, or the opening of an Abyssal Depths portal. Every time you clear a wave quickly, the fissure extends farther, increasing the chance that it will eventually stabilize into a Depths entrance. What many players don’t realize is that map layout plays a significant role here. The game prefers to extend Abysses in long, unobstructed lines, which is why certain linear or open maps seem to produce more Depths than cramped or maze-like environments.
Once inside the Abyssal Depths, another hidden mechanic begins to influence your progress: Depth tiers. Not all Depths are equal. Some contain only basic enemies and minor rewards, but others are deeper, more dangerous, and far more likely to connect to Abyssal Cities. You can often tell the difference by enemy density, modifiers, and the presence of unique abyssal constructs guarding branching tunnels. These deeper Depths significantly increase the drop rate of Kulemak’s Invitation because they lead to more frequent encounters with Lich guardians.
Abyssal Cities represent the final layer of complexity in this system. These sprawling underground zones don’t appear often, but when they do, they act as massive loot hubs packed with enemies, chests, and pathways that lead toward the Lich’s domain. Cities contain multiple mini-bosses and unique formations that dramatically heighten your chances of obtaining Kulemak’s Invitation. In fact, for players farming consistently, Cities often provide more invitations per hour than regular Depths, even if they appear less frequently. Unlocking them becomes essential for mastering the Abyss system.
Another lesser-known mechanic involves how Depth chains reset. After running several Abysses in the same region or on similar map tiers, the game subtly shifts probabilities behind the scenes. If you’ve gone a long stretch without opening a Depths, the odds begin to improve. Conversely, immediately after entering a Depths or City, the next few Abysses are slightly less likely to open again. This ebb and flow is part of why Abyss farming feels streaky long dry spells followed by bursts of Depths or Cities.
Understanding these hidden mechanics turns Abyss farming from a luck-based grind into a predictable, optimized loop. By choosing the right maps, moving quickly through fissures, recognizing deeper Depth tiers, and capitalizing on Abyssal Cities when they appear, you position yourself to acquire Kulemak’s Invitation far more consistently. The Abyss is designed with layers, and once you learn how those layers interact, the path to the Abyssal Lich becomes much smoother and far more rewarding. |
