Every managed workstation or server must have a small background agent installed for RMM and PSA software platforms to function. This client component maintains a secure connection to a central management dashboard while operating silently in the background.
There are four primary steps in a typical RMM workflow:
1. Deployment: Every target endpoint (Windows, macOS, or Linux) has a lightweight agent installed.
2. Telemetry Collection: Data on operating system health, patch levels, hardware performance, and active processes are all actively collected by the agent.
3. Alert Triggering: A machine raises an alarm in the central dashboard whenever it exceeds predetermined thresholds, such as low disk space, a failed update, or unexpected application behavior.
4. Remote Action: IT personnel can remotely resolve the problem by initiating a direct control session, pushing a repair, or executing a remediation script.
These procedures are automated by modern platforms, which enable teams to set up automatic self-healing compliance checks, periodic script runs, and recurrent patch cycles.
