How to Appear Offline in Arc Raiders on PC, PlayStation, and

Sometimes you just want to log into Arc Raiders, gear up your Raider, and head out into the ruins without immediately getting hit with squad invites. Maybe you are just looking for a quiet evening of solo farming, or maybe you want to test out some new gear without the pressure of performing for your usual crew.

Unfortunately, if you dive into the game's settings looking for a simple "Appear Offline" toggle, you are going to come up empty-handed. Embark Studios did not build a native stealth mode directly into the Arc Raiders menus. Instead, the game relies on an independent cross-play account network called an Embark ID.

Because of this cross-play layer, setting your status to invisible on your console or PC dashboard is not a 100% foolproof solution. It helps, but it has some major blind spots. Here is exactly how to set up the platform-level workarounds on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation, how they actually behave in-game, and a trick to make them work much better.

PC (Steam Workaround)

If you are playing on PC via Steam, you can use the standard Steam chat settings to go dark. This will successfully hide you from your direct Steam friends, but it won't do much against friends you've added across different platforms.

Press Shift + Tab while you are in the game to pull up the Steam Overlay.

Open up your Friends List.

Click the little drop-down arrow right next to your profile name and avatar.

Select Invisible from the list.

The Result: Anyone looking for you through Steam will see you as offline. However, because Arc Raiders runs on the Embark network, any friends who added you directly via your Embark ID might still see you as active, and they might even see a match-timer showing exactly how long you've been in your current session.

Xbox Series X/S Workaround

Flipping your status to offline on Xbox works beautifully for hiding your activity from other console players, but the cross-play layer will still bypass it for players on other systems.

Press the Xbox button on your controller to open up the Guide menu.

Move over to the far-right tab and select Profile & system.

Select your profile picture, then click into My profile.

Scroll down and find the Appear online drop-down menu.

Switch it over to Appear offline.

The Result: To anyone on your Xbox friends list looking at the console dashboard or the in-game roster, you look completely offline. However, any buddies playing the game on PC or PlayStation 5 can still spot you online if they look at the cross-play Embark roster.

PlayStation 5 Workaround

Just like on the Xbox, changing your privacy settings on the PlayStation 5 only puts a cloaking device over your activity for fellow PlayStation Network users.

Head back to the PS5 home screen and select your profile avatar in the top right corner.

Select Online Status from the quick menu that pops up.

Change your status to Appear Offline.

The Result: Other PS5 users will see you as completely dark. But again, because of how the Embark friend network operates in the background, your cross-play friends on PC and Xbox will still be able to track whether you are in the game or out on a run.

The Best Strategy for True Solo Grinding

Since the platform-level workarounds can't completely stop the Embark cross-play roster from broadcasting your status, trying to play in secret can feel a bit frustrating. If you want the cleanest, most uninterrupted solo experience possible, you need to cut off that cross-play communication layer entirely.

The trick is to force the game to only look at your specific platform. Go into the game's main menu, navigate to Settings, select Gameplay, find the Online & Crossplay section, and switch Crossplay to Off.

By turning off cross-play, you restrict the game's social features strictly to your active console or PC ecosystem. Once you combine this setting with your platform's "Appear Offline" profile, the game stops sending your status out to other networks. It is the closest thing you can get to a true, bulletproof stealth mode while you grind out your gear in peace.
